Janusz Muniak , legendary Polish
saxophonist, was born in 1941.
In 60.ties and 70 ties he was a member of
famous groups led by world known Polish jazz
artists - Krzysztof Komeda, Tomasz Stanko and
Andrzej Trzaskowski. Muniak grew up in Krakow -
artistic and jazz center performing regularly at
well known jazz clubs Helikon, Piwnica pod
Baranami and Pod Jaszczurami then by the end of
60ties .moved to Warsaw. Since 1976. Muniak led
his own bands co-operating with top Polish
musicians like Wojciech Karolak, Marek Blizinski,
Kazimierz Jonkisz as well as talented younger
generation.
From 1992 Muniak runs in Krakow his own jazz
club "U Muniaka" which gained
international reputation as a daily open music
center for classical jazz . During last 17 years
hundreds of famous international stars like Wynton
Marsalis, Lee Konitz, Randy Bracker, Nigel Kennedy
, Larry Coryell and young top musicians performed
and visited club "U Muniaka".
In nearly his 50. years career Muniak
performed at many famous clubs and festivals in
Europe and USA performing with giants of jazz like
Hank Jones, Lee Konitz, Charlire Ventura, Don
Cherry, Freddie Hubbard, Rusty Jones , great
Turkish pianist Tuna Otenel and many others.
Muniak , known from his deep, lyrical sound,
is called "Heart of Polish jazz" .
Another legendary Polish pianist and saxophonist
Wlodzimierz Nahorny named his song recorded and
published in 1968 :"Muniak's heart"
